A funny wooden mushroom… very useful!

There are objects that, at first glance, seem ordinary. And yet, behind their modest appearance, they contain fragments of life, intimate memories, and sometimes even… a hint of tenderness. How about discovering what lies hidden in an old wardrobe, a small cart, or a curious wooden object reminiscent of a mushroom? Let’s dive together into a charming house, where each piece of furniture whispers a grandfather’s love for his family.

When wood becomes memory

My wife’s grandfather had a  rare profession today  : he was a carpenter. A craftsman in the truest sense of the word. Not just a furniture maker, but  a wood enthusiast , capable of transforming a few planks into unique objects, full of soul and human warmth.

We still have several of his creations in our home. Not in the window, no. In real life. Rakes, for example. They’re no longer very effective, their teeth a little tired, but when you pick them up, you feel something strangely comforting. Like a handshake across time.

Toys made with love

He didn’t stop at practical tools. He also made small objects just for the fun of it. Like this adorable wooden cart, surely designed for his grandchildren. Too fragile to carry anything? Perhaps. But it rolled for miles in childhood games, pulled by laughter and imagination.

And then there’s this little miniature piece of furniture, given to his granddaughter for her dollhouse. A gift that  surpasses the plastic toys you find in stores . Because there’s something irreplaceable about an object designed especially for you, with patience, tenderness… and a well-sharpened saw.

A craft for adults too

He also made furniture for adults. One of his masterpieces still stands in our home: a hand-carved armoire with delicate designs that catch the eye and  captivate the gaze . Just get up close to it and you’ll imagine the hours spent sanding, carving, and adjusting every detail.  A true work of art.
